With the Project “Microsphere”
the Callerio Foundation aims to investigate
the potential uses of Lysozyme, the protein
discovered by the Nobel Prize Alexander Fleming,
that prompted the founders Carlo Callerio
and Dirce Babudieri to affirm the Società
Prodotti Antibiotici of Milan and to build
up the Callerio Foundation at Trieste.
In particular, the Project “Microsphere”
is focused on the evaluation of the potential
commercial falls deriving from the exploitation
of the intellectual property of the patents
“Microcapsule a doppio strato di polisaccaridi
utilizzabili come veicoli per la somministrazione
orale di sostanze biologicamente attive”
registered by the Fondazione Callerio on 2003
(MI2003A001617) and subsequently extended
with the international PCT WO
2005/013941
This work follows the pioneering study carried
out in the years 1998-1999 and financed with
the Fondo Trieste in the frame of the project
VALSIPAV
(Validazione del Lisozima per la Stimolazione
dell’Immunità dei Pesci di Allevamento
in Trattamento Vaccinogeno).
The Project “Microsphere” started
officially with the participation of young
researchers of Callerio Foundation to the
“Start Cup 2005” competition organized
by the University of Trieste and finalized
to the evaluations of the innovative projects
present in the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region
. The project, presented with the title “Microsphere
– sistemi microincapsulati per la somministrazione
orale di principi biologicamente attivi”
was ranked among the first ten best projects
presented at that competition.
